Description

Information about a licence or certificate in roof tiling.

You must have a licence before you do any residential building work in NSW, including roof tiling, valued at more than $5000 (incl GST) in labour and materials.

Scope

A roof tile is a pressed or moulded tile of concrete, clay or metal. Roof tiles are fixed in rows to tile battens and overlapped at their ends and sides to give a weathertight surface to roofs and fascias. ‘Roof tile’ does not include roofing slates, shingles or shakes or imitations of these (see roof slating).

In licensing, roof tiling is the fixing of roof tiles to the exterior surface of roofs and fascia structures.

Roof tiling work includes tile bedding and pointing, and putting in flashing valleys, anti- ponding board, sarking and battens.

It also includes putting in skylights, ventilators and the like, and putting protective coatings on roofs, so long as the work does not involve making structural changes to the roof or its parts.

To learn more about what is considered roof slating, see the definition in schedule 4 of the

Home Building Regulation 2014.
