Description

Information about a licence or certificate in wall and floor tiling.

You must have a licence before you do any residential building work in NSW, including wall and floor tiling, valued at more than $5000 (incl GST) in labour and materials.

Scope

A tile is a thin plate of a regular or irregular shape made from fired clay, moulded concrete, ceramics or natural material, or a similar material.

Wall and floor tiling means attaching tiles to the internal or external surfaces of buildings for functional or decorative reasons. Wall and floor tiling work and materials can include:

tiles made from cork, linoleum, rubber or thermoplastics
waterproofing wet areas to get them ready for tiling
mosaics
preparing and doing minor repairs (but not renewing or replacing) and inserting expansion joints to surfaces before tiling.

To learn more about what is considered wall and floor tiling, see the definition in schedule 4 of the Home Building Regulation 2014.
