From 1 July 2021, Design and Building Practitioners working on class 2 buildings need to register under a new Compliance Declaration Scheme.

This Certifier Practice Standard is prepared by the Commissioner for Fair Trading under section 14 of the Building and Development Certifiers Act 2018 (B&DC Act); Section 14 provides that a registered certifier’s conditions of registration may require the certifier to carry out certification work in accordance with specified standards or methodologies prepared by the Commissioner.

These are Guidelines issued by the Secretary of the Department of Customer Service (the Secretary), under Schedule 3 of the Design and Building Practitioners Regulation 2021.

The objective of this Standard is to define and explain the principal terms used in the field of personal eye and face protection.

This Standard sets out requirements and recommended practices for the protection of the eyes and faces of persons against hazards such as flying particles, dust, splashing materials and molten metals, harmful gases, vapours and aerosols, solar radiation and high-intensity radiation generated during operations such as welding and furnace work.

This document will assist engineers in identifying whether they need to be registered for the work that they do.
